아일라 남부 해안의 거친 파도와 짙은 이탄 늪이 아드벡의 강렬한 연기와 짠맛을 빚는다. 1990년 증류해 11년을 보낸 이 하이 스피리츠 보틀링은 옅은 볏짚색이다. 향은 매캐한 타르와 훈제 레몬, 해초가 또렷하고, 57.1도의 한 모금엔 그을린 후추와 소금, 감초가 매끄럽게 번진다. 여운엔 식은 모닥불 재와 바다 소금기가 길고 진하게 남는다.

it’s an Ardbeg that’s rather more medicinal than others, as it really starts on embrocations and bandages, while it even becomes a little chemical over time (plastic). There seems to be some sherry as well (it’s a tad vinous) and it goes on with more overripe oranges and a slight butyric side. I’m not all for modern ‘peat, vanilla and basta’ profiles but this one’s a tad too dirty for me. I mean, dirty-ish. With water: becomes very milky – I mean, completely opaque.
