잔을 가볍게 돌리면 옅은 황금빛이 잔 벽을 따라 가볍게 흘러내린다. 코를 가까이 가져가면 타르 같은 피트 연기와 그을음, 레몬의 산뜻함이 차례로 솟아오른다. 한 모금을 머금으면 44.5도의 도수가 혀를 부드럽게 적시며 훈연한 보리와 후추, 옅은 바닐라가 번진다. 버번 배럴에서 20년을 보낸 아드벡은 아일라 남부 증류소다운 묵직한 그을음과 시트러스의 대비를 또렷이 보여준다. 삼키고 나면 진한 훈연과 레몬이 길게 남는다.

we're back in the late 1990s and we're having some of those official 10 yo twist cap in our glass. Coltrane on the stereo, and from the glass, these pure, amazingly tarry, sooty and coastal notes that were nowhere else to be experienced. Well, all that is back in this one, with a stunning simplicity and purity, and this very peculiar feeling of oneness. Not many malts are 'one' (especially not when finished or aged in Côte-Rôtie, he he). Ardbeg, what a spirit!
