잔을 코앞으로 당기면 28년을 묵은 옛 아일라 위스키답게 흙내 밴 피트 연기 사이로 잘 익은 망고와 파인애플의 열대 과일향이 놀랍도록 또렷이 솟는다. 한 모금 머금으면 타르와 그을린 나무 위에 농익은 과일 단맛이 겹치며 입 안을 채운다. 천천히 삼키면 짭조름한 재와 달콤한 연기가 번갈아 밀려오고, 숨을 내쉴 때마다 1974년의 깊은 훈연이 되살아난다.
