잔을 가볍게 돌리면 깊은 호박빛이 잔 안에서 느리게 회전한다. 코를 가까이 가져가면 건포도와 오렌지 껍질, 오래된 오크의 향이 그윽하게 피어오른다. 한 모금을 머금으면 43도의 단정한 도수가 혀를 부드럽게 적시며 말린 과일과 꿀, 마른 향신료가 번진다. 1965년에 증류돼 17년을 보낸 매캘란은 옛 셰리 숙성 시대의 깊은 과실과 그윽한 오크를 한 잔에 고스란히 담는다. 삼키고 나면 건포도와 향신료의 단맛이 천천히 가라앉는다.
