잔을 코끝에 가져가면 40년을 견딘 카올 아일라의 부드러운 피트 연기와 레몬, 바다 향이 동시에 피어오른다. 잔을 흔들면 그 아래로 밀랍과 흰 과일의 향이 우아하게 번진다. 한 모금 머금으면 오랜 숙성이 다듬은 은은한 훈연과 시트러스의 단맛이 매끄럽게 흐른다. 삼키면 짭조름한 재와 미네랄이 49도의 결로 혀 안쪽에 길게 머문다.

It’s also showing this superb combination of waxes, citrus and honey that you find in Clynelish of similar pedigree. Also still some wonderful coastal freshness in the form of crushed seashells, beach pebbles and impressions of white coastal flowers. Undimmed and irrefutable!

superb arrival, medicines galore, along with aged mead, citrus liqueurs, lanolin, grassy olive oil, pine wood resins and more of these assertive and wonderful notes of matcha and green tea with lemon. It’s also got this stunning and wonderfully tense interplay between coastal notes that go towards umami and savoury with these salty qualities, think Maggi, soy sauce and nori. But also a fruitiness that veers between green and yellow and exotic variously. One of those very old peated malts that makes you really think almost philosophically about peat as an ingredient
