잔을 흔들면 63.4도라는 숫자와 달리 향은 의외로 가볍게 열린다. 코를 가져가면 마른 건초와 갓 벤 풀, 신선한 버터 냄새가 먼저 오고 사과 즙이 그 뒤를 따른다. 한 모금을 머금으면 도수의 뜨거움이 앞서지만 그 아래로 옅은 피트와 바다 공기, 가벼운 캐러멜이 지나간다. 물을 넉넉히 더해야 곡물의 결이 제자리를 찾는다. 삼키면 나무의 건조함과 에일 같은 쌉쌀함이 남는다. 1981년 원액을 작은 병에 담아 낸 보틀링이다.

Over infused herbal tea, burnt bread… It doesn’t get any better with water. 71 points . Caol Ila 12 yo (60.2%, James MacArthur, early 1990’s) spirity and even pungent. Almost undrinkable – let’s add some water… It gets a bit better – just a bit. Still very grassy and bitter. Let’s stop the pain right now. No interest whatsoever, just spirit. 69 points . DO YOU KNOW WOOGLE? Take some simple tasting notes, like for instance these imaginary ones: Ardbeg 30 years official bottling sherry finishing spirity, pungent, fruity, fudge, lots of body.
