짙은 호박빛이 잔 아래로 무겁게 내려앉는다. 1991년 원액을 오크 캐스크에서 11년 재워 2002년에 병입한 이 카올일라에는 셰리의 흔적이 뚜렷하다. 카라멜과 졸인 사과, 에일 맥주의 구수함이 앞서고 축사를 스친 듯한 흙내와 옅은 이탄 연기가 뒤를 잇는다. 입에서는 카라멜의 단맛과 나무의 떫은 기운이 맞물리고 흰 후추의 자극이 그 위를 지난다. 여운은 짧고 마르게 잦아든다.

quite sherried this time, with quite some caramel, cooked apple, ale. Perhaps a bit sour and woody. Nothing special but it’s quite enjoyable. A breakfast malt again? a very fruity one, with lots of freshly cut apple and whiffs of simple, straightforward peat smoke. More fruity than smoky. in fact a simple, young Caol Ila. Smoky, a bit farmy, some apple juice… Not complex at all but quite nice

Very little wood influence: an excellent summer Islayer. 85 points . Caol Ila 10 yo (46%, Douglas Laing Premier Barrel, 301 bottles) Wow, what a bottle! The Laings sure will never win an award at the World Design Competition, but who cares? a bit sweetish, apple juice again, white pepper… Slightly ‘dirty’.
