창백한 금빛이 잔 속에 얕게 잠겨 있다. 서른 해를 버번 호그스헤드에서 보낸 원액인데도 향은 나무보다 바다와 약재 쪽으로 크게 기울어, 타르와 붕대, 멸치, 올리브유, 석탄의 냄새가 차례로 밀려온다. 캠퍼의 서늘함이 그 위를 덮는다. 46도의 입은 균형이 곱고 짠맛이 중심을 잡아 레몬과 조개껍데기, 훈제 청어, 감초 사탕이 이어진다. 여운은 길고 깨끗하며 끝으로 갈수록 타르의 쓴맛이 짙어진다.

hold on, are you sure this is Caol Ila? It’s more medicinal than Laphroaig, more coastal than Ardbeg and more tarry than Port Ellen! Having said that, it all remains smooth and easy, but it does remind me more of pre-extension Coal Ila, such as the late-1960s vintages. Just ask Gordon & MacPhail. At random, I also find anchovies, bandages, olive oil, pitch, coal, seafood (crabs from the sound of Islay?) and touches of camphor. No need to say that all this is just perfect

good length, clean, complex, salty, coastal. No clams, not even in the aftertaste, which is tarrier
