잔을 가까이 하면 부드러운 피트 스모크와 약한 해염이 가장 먼저 두드러진다. 고든 앤 맥페일의 코노세흐 초이스로 출시된 카올 일라 1972년산 16년 보틀링이다. 팰럿은 40%의 낮은 도수에 어울리는 부드러운 곡물과 마른 시리얼, 가벼운 약초가 명확하게 발전한다. 아일라 북부의 캐릭터답게 짭조름한 해풍과 미네랄리티가 또렷이 드러난다. 피니시는 부드러운 스모크와 흰 꽃 향이 깊게 머문다.

There's also a bit of fat, tallow, some cough syrup notes, cough lozenges, and then fruitier touches, like in all these old peated whiskies from Islay, but here it's rather the bergamot that takes over from Bowmore's famous mango or Laphroaig's passion fruit

here too we are surprised by the depth and lack of weakness in this old malt which will have nonetheless spent nearly forty years in a simple screw-cap bottle. The same fattiness (bacon), the smoky and medicinal side, bergamots and yuzu, a bit of pine sap, then a growing salinity... One could come to prefer these lower degrees to the full proof and other cask strengths. You are right, let's not exaggerate
