리필 셰리 버트가 1996년 벤 네비스를 29년간 길들인 흔적이 캐스크의 절제된 균형으로 잔에 드러난다. 향에서는 무화과와 다크 체리, 옅은 가죽이 짙게 깃들어 있고 캐스크의 흔적인 발사믹 산미가 뒤따른다. 입에서는 살구 잼과 토피, 정향의 두꺼운 단맛이 입을 채운다. 48.9도의 알코올이 균형을 단단히 받치고 톰슨 형제 보틀링답게 정직한 여운이 길게 머문다. 짙은 호박빛이 잔에 깊이 비친다.

mineral oils, vegetable oils, brake dust and walnut liqueur, then cigars and a drop of seawater flavoured with menthol (who on earth would do such a thing?) We are swimming in full-on Ben-Nevisness. Oh, and a few tiny figs

absolutely excellent, on mineral dust, green walnuts, brine, leather and tobacco. Then comes bitter orange. The texture and power are pitch perfect

long and gloriously saline, bordering on mezcal
