잔에 코를 가까이 대면 벤 네비스 특유의 미네랄과 그을음 향이 오르고 잘 익은 바나나와 귤, 옅은 소금기가 뒤따른다. 흔들수록 다시마와 젖은 바위, 버터 바른 오트밀 같은 묵직한 향이 배어 나온다. 46도의 1996 빈티지를 머금으면 그을린 캐릭터 위로 레몬과 후추, 마른 가죽 같은 쌉쌀함, 절인 짭짤한 레몬이 어우러진다. 삼키면 비터 오렌지와 짭짤한 왁스의 여운이 이어지는 우직한 벤 네비스 10년이다.

doesn’t Ben Nevis become even more mineral (Angus insists we should say mineralic) and sooty? Angus also gets some sorts of overripe bananas, tangerines, a little saltiness as well, while I’m starting to find some kelp and wet rocks. New magazines, ink, a pack of mint lozenges, and this buttered porridge that’s not rare in Ben Nevis. Freshly chopped parsley
