하일랜드 북동 해안 브로라의 서늘한 바닷바람과 청량한 공기가 왁스 같은 질감으로 이름난 클라이넬리시의 원액을 빚어낸다. 옥타브 올로로소 셰리 캐스크에서 17년을 보낸 1997년 빈티지는 맑은 황금빛을 잔에 드리운다. 코끝에는 풀 연기와 타르, 엔진 오일과 오렌지 껍질의 향이 광물처럼 곧게 감돈다. 55.6도의 힘이 시가와 비터 오렌지, 소금기 어린 럼과 흰 후추의 풍미를 매끄럽게 이끌고, 여운에는 왁스와 미네랄, 시트러스가 흙내와 어우러져 아주 길게 이어지며 브로라의 개성을 되새기게 한다.

yeah, there, some Brora character, with some grass smoke, mustard, ointments, plaster, tar, old tools, engine oil, rusty old tins, earth, even touches of manure, whiffs of burning lamp oil, then orange peel, tangerines starting to rot or to become ‘very overripe’… The magic happens again! With water: amazing waxy/mineral/citrusy/earthy development. Everything’s in place, just like in the John Coltrane Quartet (say A love supreme)

the kind of whisky that you want to marry. Amazing, almost slamming combination of cigars, bitter oranges, salted rum, chalk, white pepper, quinces, old herbal liqueurs (long forgotten recipes), toothpaste for gourmets (what?)… With water: exceptional. The smoky side grew much bigger
