노즈에서는 잘 익은 사과와 꿀, 오래된 오크의 향이 두드러지고 리필 셰리가 남긴 은은한 마른 과일이 뒤따른다. 글렌리벳을 44년 숙성한 이 고든 앤 맥페일 보틀링은 세월이 빚은 섬세함이 또렷하다. 팰럿에서는 밀랍과 시트러스, 구운 견과의 풍미가 부드럽게 발전하며 48.5도가 안정적으로 받쳐준다. 입안의 질감은 매끄럽고 오랜 숙성에도 과일 향이 살아 있다. 피니시는 길고 우아하며 오크의 향신료가 잔잔히 남는다. 극노숙성 스페이사이드의 품격이 명확하게 드러나는 보틀링이다.

a maelstrom. Every time you pick up your tulip glass you're encountering something else, which I find a little, say unsettling. Meaty! No, fruity! No, chocolaty! No, floral! No, honeyed! No… What happens is that all those A-descriptors would take the lead one after the other, while you just couldn't cope with that frantic pace. And now it's raisins and prunes. No no no, chocolates and toffees! No wait, old brandies, armagnacs… No, old metals… Who's in charge, actually? Or is this self-management?

grand, one, meaty, topped with honey and chocolate sauce, mead, cognac, dried figs and just a lot of black nougat, or black turon. In my book, black nougat is not totally uncommon at all in malt whisky, but this one's has really got a lot of it. Some Demerara sugar too, chocolaty molasses, thicker honeys…
