marvellous attack, on freshly cut apple and sea air. So clean, so fresh! Fresh butter, fresh hazelnut skins, coffee… An extraordinary old-young Ardbeg. The smoke is very subtle… White wood smoke? Notes of light toffee, white chocolate, butterscotch. Just wonderful! Some melon, white peach…

restaurant Palate

ha-ha, lots of oomph! Still a bit rough after twenty years in its bottle, but it’s like a marvellous all-fruit jam with some white pepper and all sorts of spices. Add some smoke and you have it! Wonderful. 91 points . (Ardbeg) 1973/1988 (57%, Samaroli ‘Fragments of Scotland, 648 bottles)
