deep gold
air Nose
toffee and dried fruits galore at first nosing, pretty much what one would expect from an old Glenfarclas. Dried figs and dates, Xmas cake, huge notes of pipe tobacco and liquorice, even a little wood smoke (maybe pine cone), the whole developing more towards a little rancio and big notes of walnuts, apple peelings and dry sherry, getting finally superbly dry and leathery. A classic!
restaurant Palate
the relatively low strength is no problem here, it’s rather big and powerful whisky. Starts very caramelised and rather coffeeish (sugared expresso), very malty as well, nutty, with the more and more notes of toasts, roasted nuts and fudge, getting finally drier once again. Also a little pepper and cloves. Amazingly lively and even vibrant at such old age, but a tad less complex than on the nose
