잔을 흔들어 두고 코를 가져가도 향이 크게 나서지 않는다. 풀과 곡물, 물러진 사과의 냄새가 조용히 스치고 바닐라와 과일 케이크의 기미가 뒤에서 비친다. 한 모금 머금으면 인상이 바뀌어 보리의 단맛과 메이플 시럽, 퍼지가 또렷하게 살아나고 볶은 견과의 고소함이 붙는다. 삼킨 뒤에는 마멀레이드의 쌉쌀함과 풀내가 짧게 지나간다. 2002년 증류액을 43도로 낮춘 이 스페이몰트는 향보다 입에서 더 나은 쪽이다.

aromatically impaired? Not quite but I wouldn’t say there’s much happening here. A bit of grass, a little grains, overripe apples, touches of vanilla, ideas of fruitcake, hints of honey… It’s all whispering and very discreet, but that should change on the palate

it does, sweet barley and maple syrup, a little toffee and fudge, roasted nuts, honey, then a little herbal tea (eglantine) and marmalade

shortish, a tad more bitter and grassy
