잔을 코앞으로 가져가면 물냉이 같은 서늘한 풀내가 먼저 스치고 곧 자두와 초콜릿이 밀려온다. 잔을 더 돌리면 오래된 책방의 먼지와 석탄 연기가 겹쳐 올라와 올로로소 시대의 맥캘란임을 짐작하게 한다. 43도의 한 모금을 머금으면 자두와 초콜릿이 크게 부풀지만 포도주 같은 산미가 이내 힘을 흩뜨린다. 삼키면 블러드 오렌지와 퀴닌의 씁쓸함이 짧게 스치고 사라진다.

what’s a little tricky is not to take OBE into account. For example, do these very big, very obvious notes of watercress come from bottle ageing or not? Other that that, we have bags of prunes and chocolate, well in the ‘full oloroso’ style of the time, but then more and more dust and old papers. Old bookstore, a few dried porcinis, quite some coal smoke and then the chocolate is back, together with more cut grass. Very fine nose but it’s quite dry despite some touches of rum that do emerge after a while

nah, it’s not its best side. The prunes and chocolate are back – big time – but it’s also a little too grapey, almost armagnacqy, and tends to fall apart after a few seconds. Some strawberry jam

shortish, with more blood oranges. A little quinine in the aftertaste
