more on vanilla and barley sugar than the Dun Bheagan, caramel cream, sweet herbs (borage)… It’s only after a few minutes that more coastal notes emerge but it never gets as maritime and smoky as the DB. Some seaweed, though, and a pleasant rootiness. Damp earth. Some paraffin and even plastic too

restaurant Palate

it’s a rather liquoricy Caol Ila, with a punchy attack, developing on as much salt and peat as the 1996. Hints of orangeade

timer Finish

long, peaty and peppery. Bigger than the usual Caol Ila at 46%
