it’s more the French oak’s spiciness that comes through than the wine, with quite some ginger, soft curry, sweet mustard and cardamom. The spirit hasn’t got lots to say here, even if there’s a pleasant smokiness (coal smoke). Hints of stewed peaches. It’s far from being unpleasant but I’m not sure Caol Ila needs this
