잔을 손안에서 돌리면 짙은 적갈색이 잔 벽을 따라 끈적하게 흘러내린다. 코를 가까이 가져가면 건포도와 다크초콜릿, 가죽의 향이 진하게 올라온다. 한 모금을 머금으면 55.7도의 도수가 혀를 단단히 데우며 말린 자두와 흑설탕, 볶은 견과가 번진다. 셰리 캐스크에서 25년을 보낸 글렌에스크는 오래전 문을 닫은 하이랜드 증류소답게 깊은 셰리의 단맛을 진하게 끌어낸다. 삼키고 나면 다크초콜릿과 향신료가 입천장에 오래 머문다.

strange again. Chemical, very cardboardy, bizarrely peppery and more and more resinous. Too resinous, in fact. Also a feeling of After Eights, then bitter oranges and mocha. With water: a little better with water but there’s also more geranium (leaves), which does not work. Also lavender sweets
