1984년 증류된 이 글렌 가리오크는 오랜 병 숙성을 거치며 옛 하이랜드 피트의 개성을 고스란히 간직했다. 세월이 남긴 향은 그을린 흙과 약재, 허브 시럽, 캠퍼의 진한 결을 겹겹이 쌓는다. 43도의 도수는 입안에서 기름진 피트와 검은 올리브, 약초 같은 쌉쌀함을 두껍게 편다. 지금은 보기 드문 옛 스타일의 훈연이 허브와 뒤엉켜 강렬한 개성을 만든다. 오랜 세월이 거친 피트를 곰삭혀 시럽 같은 깊이로 바꿔 놓았다. 황금빛 여운은 그을음과 타르, 약초의 온기가 오래도록 남는다.

can you smoke vegetables? This really is like a big mash up of scorched bonfire earth, distant peat embers, the gloopiest, most syrupy of old school, herbal cough medicines and parsnips roasted in honey. Really another world entirely. There’s also plasters, ointments, old herbal liqueurs, muddy sheep wool and a wee gallon of camphor. Malt whisky for Aberdeenshire farmers that somehow found itself in Italy

extremely fat, syrupy and herbal. Sooty, muddy peat, black olives mashed in their own pickling juices, herbal toothpaste, mysterious old ointments, tractor engine grease and various medical embrocations. Wild, bonkers and, quite frankly, brilliant!
