잔을 받아 삼십 초쯤 그대로 두었다가 코를 가져가면 알코올의 날이 가라앉은 뒤의 향이 또렷이 깃들어 있다. 퍼스트필 버트에서 17년을 보낸 만큼 건포도와 젖은 나무의 향이 먼저 오고 그 틈으로 캠벨타운의 소금기가 새어 나온다. 48.1도를 한 모금 삼키면 부드럽게 열리며 말린 무화과와 담뱃잎의 쓴맛이 차례로 지난다. 잔을 비우고 나서도 훈연한 재의 기운이 혀 가운데에 깊게 머문다.
